Quick proofreading by Wordy

Seen from an ROI perspective it’s hard to overestimate the benefits of quick proofreading. With a relatively small investment, outsourced proofreading frees up the time of highly paid knowledge workers and saves you from costly rewrites or even liability claims.

All writers make mistakes which makes creating high-quality content a process that requires more than one person. Clever companies and individuals recognise this and use proofreading to reduce cycle times and remove the risk of embarrassment.

What is proofreading?

Proofreading is the process of checking a written work for errors in grammar, spelling and punctuation. On the surface, this seems like a simple process, but proofreading is more than a spellcheck. As any writer knows, checking your own work for errors is virtually impossible, and that is why professional proofreading is invaluable.

Outsourcing your proofreading will save you a great deal of time. In fact Wordy can help you cut cycle times by 30 per cent or more. Regardless of whether you have a short text or a large volume of work you’ll benefit from professional proofreading.

Moreover, no software can match a human proofreader; when it comes to context, wording and sentence structure a professional proofreader will always stand out in making the text easier to read and your message easier to understand.

Wordy uses professional proofreaders around the world who can:

  • comprehend the text and its cultural context
  • understand grammatical structure and idiomatic nuance
  • double-check for factual errors, typographical gaffes, mistakes within images, omissions, inconsistencies in page layout and a whole range of other subtle concerns that commonly afflict documents.

How fast is my job claimed by an editor after I submit it?

Usually, jobs are claimed immediately (or at least very quickly). A delay could happen for a number of reasons. For example, if your text is very specialised and requires an editor with expertise in your subject area, that editor might not be available immediately (because, for example, they are in a different time zone where it is outside normal working hours, or they might be working on other jobs). Another reason a job might not be picked up straight away is the quality of the text you are submitting. If, for example, the text was originally written in a language other than English and the translation is poor, an editor may be reluctant to accept it because of the difficulty of understanding what you are intending to say. It's important that your text is understandable when you submit it. However, the most likely reason there is a delay in your job being picked up is because you have an editor team in place. That means that for a certain period of time, only the editors you have selected to be in your team can see your request before it is opened up to the full pool of editors. If you have a locked editor team, only the editor(s) on your team will see that your job is waiting -- and that editor may be on holiday or unavailable for any one of a number of other reasons. The best thing to do is cancel your editor team, cancel your job (the fee will be refunded to your Wordy account), and then resubmit it as a new job. It will then be visible to the full range of Wordy editors and is likely to be picked up quickly.
